Dental Implant Restorations
Dental implants are a new alternative in tooth replacement. They are a great way to replace missing teeth and provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures.
Reasons for dental implants:
- Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
- Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
- Restore a patient’s confident smile.
- Restore chewing, speech, and digestion.
- Restore or enhance facial tissues.
- Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
The procedure usually consists of two stages: placement of a replacement tooth root at the specialist’s office, followed by replacement of a tooth replacement (crown) at our office. These two stages will require many visits over several months.
During the first stage, X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, tissue, and space available for an implant. Then, while you are numb, the gum covering the area is gently folded back and the underlying bone is prepared to receive the implant. The extent of the bone preparation is dependent on the number of implants required. The implant(s) are then placed, and the gums are sutured. During a healing period of about 3 to 6 months the implant is expected to fully integrate into the bone.
After proper healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor, the artificial teeth are then securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.
